Stepping out in faith is scary for all of us, but what does inaction cost us?
Matthew 1:24, Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
Joseph woke up!
- Joseph got a word.
- He recognized he got a word.
- He did something about it!
It wasn’t easy. He had to pay the price of being misunderstood. He had to pay the price of losing some comfort and security. But the bottom line is…
Every dream that is worth dreaming WILL cost us something.
Matthew 2:13-14, And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
Joseph got up!
It’s not just enough to get a Word from the Lord; we have to ACT on it.
It seems elementary but we must get up and get started.

Again, we must get up and get started. God won’t give us the next instruction until we obey the last instruction.
What is it that God has been burdening your heart with…maybe for years now?
Get up and get started.
Don’t know how? Ask God. Trust Him to show you.
- Go to your prayer closet.
- Get quiet before the Lord (This will be difficult for some who are not accustomed to doing this, but hang in there and keep doing it day after day. You WILL hear from the Lord).
- Ask Him what is on your heart. Ask Him how to get started.
- BE QUIET.
- If the answer doesn’t come immediately, be patient. Give the Spirit time to answer (again, this quiet time may be uncomfortable to some people. Keep doing it every day. It will get better and even something you will look forward to).
- Don’t worry, trust God, the answer will come (Phil. 4:6).
You don’t have to have the faith to finish, just the faith to start.
Dreams not acted on, quickly become regrets.
Matthew 2:19-20, But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life.
Joseph woke up, got up, and moved.
First, we need to realize that Joseph and his family were comfortable. They had established a home in Egypt. Joseph had established his carpentry business there and, let’s face it, they were loaded! Did you forget about the expensive gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh they had received from the Magi? (How do you think Jesus could afford the one-piece coat he wore that was valuable enough that the Roman soldiers wanted to gamble for it John 19:23 & 24).
BUT Joseph listened and obeyed.
The problem is that…
Some of us are so caught up in yesterday’s voice,
we can’t hear today’s voice.
And some of us don’t want to hear God’s voice because it is uncomfortable. He may call us to actually DO something.
A preoccupation with comfort, which afflicts many of us in the United States, is one of the most damaging things to our dreams.
Sometimes we won’t take a chance or step out on faith because we are locked into the security of our current situation…job…relationship…you name it.
- What has God been calling you to?
- What are your dreams?
Get a pen and paper…right now. Go on, I’ll wait.
Pretend time and money are non-issues and write down everything you would like to do, everywhere you would like to go, every person you would like to help and the way you would like to do it (it doesn’t matter how crazy or far-fetched they seem, write them down).
Look at your list. Can you think of steps to take that would allow you to start on any of them, even on a very small scale?
(Maybe you can’t give Aunt Bunny a million dollars for a hair transplant, but can you give her an encouraging phone call or visit just to let her know you love her and are thinking of her? Maybe you can’t take that trip to the Holy Land right now but can you go to the Holy Land Experience in Florida or The Great Passion Play in Arkansas? Can you cut out pictures of Israel and do a little internet research on trip packages that, by faith, you can take at some point in the future? You get the picture)
Purpose in your heart right now to spend quiet time with the Lord and ACT on what He lays on your heart.
START TODAY- don’t put it off.
What does God have for you…just around the corner?
