They shall look upon the One they Pierced

Genesis 45:4-7, And Joseph said unto his brethren, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt. Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.  For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance.

In many different ways Joseph is an Old Testament type of the Lord Jesus. This is one way I have never thought of before.

In shock and fright, the sons of Jacob, renamed Israel by God,  finally knew the truth: their brother Joseph was alive and well. Not only alive, but also their master and saviour.

For 2000 years the Jewish people have rejected Messiah. However there is coming a time very soon when…Zechariah 12:10, And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

Can you imagine the fear that fell on Joseph’s brothers when they realized who he really was and that he had every power at his right hand to have done to them whatever he wished, even to be put to death.

But Joseph had mercy upon them, as you read above in Genesis 45.

So will Jesus have mercy on His brethren the Jews.

He will have mercy RIGHT NOW upon all those who will call upon the name of the Lord.

As you accept the salvation of THE Saviour, ask yourself; what does God have for me…just around the corner?
