Another Year!

Can you believe it has been another year? It seems not that long ago we were celebrating the fall feasts. But sure enough, it’s September and time to begin planning for our celebrations and get-togethers in the Lord.

The fall feasts are annual rehearsals of things yet to be fulfilled on God’s prophetic calendar. Wonderful things like the marriage supper of the Lamb and the resurrection at the last shofar blast are all represented in the fall feasts. I think it is pretty obvious it is my favorite time of the year. Not only is it a time of falling temperatures (Woohoo!!!) and beautiful coloring of the leaves, but it is also a time of drawing near to the Lord with a fresh start.

Over the next few days I will give you some little snippets of info regarding each of these special times on God’s calendar. I say God’s calendar because He says in Leviticus 23:1-2, And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts. So you see, these are HIS feasts and we are blessed to participate.

Today we will start with…the first one. At sunset on September 28th begins The Feast of Trumpets/Rosh Hashana/The Head of the Year. 100 blasts of the shofar signals the beginning of this holiday (or holy day) which is the beginning of the new year on the Jewish calendar.

It is literally a call to a new beginning. It is a call to begin personal teshuvah or repentance. Hosea 10:12 says, Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. This is a time to break up the fallow ground of our heart so that God may rain righteousness on us.

As believers, we can come to the Lord in repentance anytime we choose. In fact, we should come to Him every day asking for forgiveness where we may have fallen short. But don’t we need those special times to really pour our heart out to the Lord? For some it is revival services at church. For some it may be a personal anniversary of some type that causes  them to remember how good it was at one time to walk with the Lord. Whatever it is, why not make your time to really get right with the Lord, to really pour out all your hearts sin and cares, to lay bear your soul before your Saviour, why not make it during God’s appointed time?

Everyone has times of feeling they are far from the Lord. Everyone has times when they have drug their sin around with them, unrepentant, and have come to a point of feeling miserable, depressed, or even angry…maybe even angry at God. Nearly everyone has times of forgetting that God loves them beyond their comprehension and nothing can ever separate them from the love of God in Christ Jesus. God hasn’t gone anywhere. It is you who have forsaken Him.

It’s time to change that. Make up your mind right now that this year will be different. Mark your calendar right now for September 28th at sunset. Say to yourself and to God, “This year will be different”. Set your mind to seek after God, to pray and seek His face, to study the Bible, to speak to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God (Eph. 5:18-21).

Then you will be ready for Yom Kippur, The Day of Atonement. Ohhhh and just wait and see what God has for you…just around the corner!
