I had hoped school was behind me but the Lord has other plans. Please pray for me (and my family) as I begin Seminary with Liberty University beginning August 22nd.
Why am I going to seminary? I am glad you asked that (I actually did have a brother ask me that recently while visiting Texas).
The short answer is: the Lord has burdened me to do it.
The long answer is WHY He has burdened me to do it.
1 Corinthians 1:22, For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
The “Greeks” mentioned here refer to anyone who is not a Jew. The Jews KNOW God exists. The Jews KNOW He works miracles. The Jews KNOW He is God and with Him all things are possible.
Gentiles, on the other hand, for the most part do not know. They (we) do not have the rich history with the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob that the Jews do. We have a tremendous tendency to trust education. Anyone with Dr. or PhD attached to their name must know what they are talking about, right?
“The Greeks seek after wisdom”. If you read that passage with the before and after verses and put it all together as it was meant to be, you quickly realize the writer is referring to the “wisdom” of man.
Do you know what my college education really means? Do you know what my degree on the wall really means? It means I have been educated in the wisdom of man.
When I get my degree from seminary, do you know what that will mean? It will mean I have been educated further in the wisdom of man. If a person has “Dr.” or “PhD” or any other academic blaa-blaa tied to their name, do you know what that means? It means they have been educated in the wisdom of man.
That degree or title DOES NOT have anything to do with knowing if that person has been born again. That degree or title DOES NOT have anything to do with knowing if that person is filled with the Holy Ghost. That degree or title DOES NOT have anything to do with knowing if that person is called of God to preach the blessed gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In fact, not many who have the wisdom of man are even called (see 1 Cor. 1:26).
So why am I going to seminary? Because God has laid it on my heart to go and get that piece of paper so that I can proclaim with man’s authority to those who trust in the wisdom of man and not in the anointing of the Holy Spirit of God, the TRUTH.
What is the truth? The truth is that it doesn’t matter a hill of beans what Dr. Professor So-in-So thinks the “Original Greek” says or what they think the “Original Hebrew” says. The Word of God, that has been preserved by His own right hand to all people (not to the educated elect who tell you what that word or this word “really means in the Greek”), says, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation(Romans 10:9-10).
What does God have for you…Just around the corner?
1 Corinthians 1:17-29, For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.
