Boy, this time of year with the High Holy Days to be observed has really fired me up! I just hope you are as excited as I am to think of all we have in Christ.
According to the Apostle Paul, if you are born-again, you have been adopted into the family of God. Paul says in Romans 8:15, “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father”. “Abba” is an affectionate word for “Father”, in other words, a more personal, loving way of saying”Father”, much like we might say “Daddy”.
Think about that. Through the blood of Christ, we may approach the God of the universe crying, “Abba”. Not just anyone can do that, only the children. Paul goes on to explain our adoption further in chapter 11. He speaks of the Natural Olive Tree (being Israel) and of the Wild Olive Tree (being we Gentiles). Then he says in verses 17 & 18, And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree(Gentiles), wert graffed in among them(Jews), and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree(Our rich and shared heritage in the faith); Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
We have been adopted into the family…what family? The chosen family of God. We have been graffed in and adopted into the chosen people of God and we, the Gentile believers, do not bear or support them, but they bear us. In other words, the history, the lineage, the very roots of our faith come from God’s chosen people; Israel.
Only from Israel do we have the scriptures, only from Israel do we have the prophets, only from Israel do we have the Apostles, and only from Israel do we have the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. After hundreds of years of anti-Semitism, persecution of and separation from the Jews, the eyes of many are being opened to the roots of our faith. God told the Prophet Daniel,(Daniel 12:4 ) But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. I believe and have seen with my own eyes that the seal is being opened even now. In these last days, eyes are being opened, understanding is coming upon those who would seek God’s face and find it, revelation of things that have always been in the scriptures are now being recognized because it is time.
At the risk of sounding like an infomercial allow me to say, “But wait! There more!”
Question: When a child is adopted into a family, does the family conform to that child’s ways, beliefs, and traditions or does the child conform to the family’s beliefs, ways, and traditions?
The answer is obvious. And actually if our adoptive family conformed to us Gentiles, they would have no God at all. Paul said before we were adopted into this Hebrew family of God… (Ephesians 2:12) That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise (Abrahamic covenants), having no hope, and without God in the world:…
Wow, we were in sad shape! But now, through Christ Jesus, we have been given so much!!! Galatians 3:29, And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. The rich heritage of our faith, the covenant promises of Abraham, the feasts, the fasts, the scriptures, prayer, the list goes on and on. But most of all we have been given eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord!
What does God have for you…just around the corner?
