Proverbs chapter 2, March 2nd’s proverb, really spoke to me like never before. I read it every 2nd of the month so it just goes to show you how God’s Word is living and always teaching us something no matter how many times we have read it.
Get your Bible and read verses 1-6.
Proverbs 2:1, My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; (see that word “if”? That is a huge word…meditate on it. Also the word “words”. Plural; all of them.)
Proverbs 2:2, So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; (Hear it with your ears, let it soak in to your heart.)
Proverbs 2:3, Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; (What is he saying here? Do I have to ask? PRAY. James 1:5, If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. Ye have not because ye ask not, right?)
Proverbs 2:4, If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; (Seek and you shall find; again we’re talking about prayer and Bible study here. Silver and hid treasures, wow. Meditate on that, how we would go after those things.)
Proverbs 2:5, Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. (THEN. After we seek diligently the things mentioned above, THEN. Stop and meditate before God on that for a moment. THEN shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord. That in itself is priceless! Then thou shalt find the knowledge of God. I’ll say it again…wow!)
Proverbs 2:6, For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. Many definitions could be cited for “wisdom”, however the Bible, being its own dictionary, does just fine. For the Lord giveth wisdom, colon (:) then here is the Bible’s definition of wisdom…knowledge and understanding.)
There is quite a bit of knowledge out there in the world. We have college graduates, business managers, teachers, professors, business owners, and on and on and on. Knowledge is everywhere you look. But look at their messed up lives. Look at the unhappiness. Look at the teacher that goes into the faculty room and starts shooting, for example. Yes, many have knowledge out there but few have knowledge coupled with understanding.
Wisdom is having the right kind of knowledge AND the understanding to use it to God;s glory and the benefit of mankind. Nothing is worth more.
How do we get it? Go back and read verses 1-5 again.
What does God have for you just around the corner?
