What are God’s Commandments?

prayLast time we talked about abiding in Jesus. How do we do that? John 15:10, If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

Is the Lord talking about a list of rules and regulations here when He talks about commandments? Not at all. Too many times I have heard (and I know you have too) people reducing the love, joy, and excitement of Jesus down to a list of dos and don’ts.

The Lord goes on in that passage to explain just what He is talking about when He says “Commandments”. John 15:12, This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

THAT is how we obey His commandments; love one another as He loved us. In fact, another passage tells us that the entire law can be summed up and kept in one sentence; Galatians 5:14, For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

It is even more exciting to know why He told us what He did in John chapter 15. He told us to abide in Him, to bear much fruit, and to keep His commandments. Why did He tell us to do all that?

John 15:11, These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

Glory to God! Somebody get excited!!! THAT OUR JOY MIGHT BE FULL!

Say to yourself, “I am a child of God!” Do we really understand the depth of the meaning of that? Do we really fathom the exciting riches that are ours in Christ Jesus, the peace that passeth understanding, the joy in the knowledge of His salvation in us?

Colossians 2:2, That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

My hope is that you (whoever is reading this) are excited about Jesus! I hope that you are in a living, breathing, daily walk with Him, and that you are living in great anticipation of what He has for you just around the corner.

Lord bless you today.
